- This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Backend Software Engineer based in India. We are looking for a motivated Backend Software Engineer to contribute to real-world software engineering projects in a flexible, remote environment. In this role, you will work with existing software repositories and open-source projects, analyzing code, troubleshooting issues, and implementing improvements. You will have the opportunity to explore diverse codebases, understand complex system architectures, and develop practical solutions to technical challenges. The position offers hands-on exposure to software maintenance, debugging, and development workflows across multiple programming languages. You will collaborate through established tools and processes while maintaining high standards of code quality and reliability. - Accountabilities: Explore and understand existing software repositories, including code structures, dependencies, architecture, and implementation logic. Analyze, modify, debug, and extend existing codebases across supported programming languages. Work with open-source projects to implement improvements, resolve bugs, and enhance existing functionality. Investigate technical issues by tracing execution paths, identifying root causes, and developing effective solutions. Understand interactions between different modules and components within established software systems. Implement reliable, readable, and maintainable code while following existing development standards and best practices. Use Git and GitHub for version control, including branching, commits, pull requests, and code reviews. Incorporate feedback, address review comments, and collaborate effectively within structured development workflows. Use Jira or similar project management tools to track tasks, bugs, progress, and issue resolution. Communicate technical findings, provide regular updates, and report progress on assigned development tasks. Requirements: At least 1 year of professional software engineering experience using one or more programming languages, such as Java, Python, C++, Go, JavaScript, or TypeScript. Hands-on experience working with existing software codebases and open-source projects. Strong ability to understand, modify, debug, troubleshoot, and extend existing software implementations. Familiarity with Git/GitHub workflows, including branching, commits, pull requests, code reviews, and incorporating feedback. Experience using Jira or similar project management and task-tracking tools. Ability to navigate unfamiliar repositories, identify relevant files and dependencies, and understand implementation paths. Strong analytical thinking, debugging abilities, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently, manage priorities, follow technical instructions, and deliver assigned tasks reliably. Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical findings and development progress clearly. Benefits: Hourly Compensation: $30–$80 USD per hour, depending on experience and expertise.
