This senior leadership role sits at the core of a fast-growing fintech organization focused on redefining financial services for Canadians. You will oversee the full financial risk landscape, spanning credit, market, and liquidity risk, while ensuring strong governance, regulatory compliance, and data-driven decision-making. Acting as both a strategic advisor and hands-on leader, you will guide a high-performing team of risk professionals and shape frameworks that directly influence product growth and financial stability. The role blends deep quantitative expertise with executive-level influence across Finance, Product, Technology, and Data teams. You will own critical capabilities such as IFRS 9 provisioning, risk appetite frameworks, stress testing, and portfolio monitoring. This is a highly impactful position where your insights will help balance innovation, growth, and risk discipline in a mission-driven, remote-first environment.
  • Accountabilities In this role, you will lead the financial risk function end-to-end, ensuring robust governance, accurate forecasting, and strong cross-functional alignment across the organization. You will be responsible for shaping strategy, overseeing analytical frameworks, and ensuring risk decisions support sustainable growth. Key responsibilities include: Leading and developing a high-performing team of risk managers and analysts, fostering accountability, analytical rigor, and continuous improvement. Establishing and maintaining financial risk governance frameworks, including decision governance, risk appetite definition, and board-level reporting. Overseeing credit and non-credit financial risks, including market and liquidity risk exposure, across products and portfolios. Driving IFRS 9 compliance, including Expected Credit Loss (ECL) modeling, provisioning, and stress testing methodologies. Leading portfolio monitoring, anomaly detection initiatives, and risk reporting to identify trends and emerging risks early. Acting as second-line oversight for risk models, ensuring accuracy, performance, and regulatory alignment. Collaborating with Finance, Product, Technology, and Data teams to integrate risk insights into business and product decisions. Ensuring data stewardship for financial risk, including data quality, lineage, and usability for decision-making. Requirements The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in financial risk management within complex, data-driven environments, along with strong leadership and stakeholder influence capabilities. You combine technical depth with strategic thinking and the ability to operate across functions at senior levels. Key requirements include: 10+ years of experience in financial risk management, with strong exposure to retail credit risk and/or treasury, market, and liquidity risk. Proven experience leading teams, including managing managers and building high-performing analytical organizations. Strong expertise in IFRS 9, ECL methodologies, stress testing frameworks, and risk governance practices. Solid quantitative background (Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or related field). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable business insights. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior executives and non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated experience working cross-functionally with Product, Finance, Technology, and Data teams. Strong ownership mindset with the ability to operate in fast-paced, evolving environments.
