Job Description
TITLE: Director of Workforce Transformation
REPORTS TO: TBD
LOCATION: Remote
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time, Exempt Employee
At Career Team, our mission is to empower one person, start one career, and serve one family at a time. We do this through innovative software solutions and high-touch services.
We’re the only workforce technology company that also runs workforce boards as a managed services operator. When a state partners with us, they get more than software — they get the operating playbook we’ve built running boards across the country.
As the Director of Workforce Transformation, you’ll be the human face of this competitive advantage and bring that playbook to life for our state customers. You won’t just configure software to match the way things have always been done. Instead, you’ll sit with state leaders and local workforce boards, look honestly at how they serve job seekers and employers today, and help them redesign the model — people, process, and platform together.
What You’ll Own:
- You’ll partner directly with state leaders and local workforce boards to perform deep-dive "process autopsies"— dissecting current workflows to keep what works and remove what doesn’t. You’ll lead investigative sessions to hunt down bottlenecks and outdated relics, ultimately architecting a bigger, bolder vision for our customers to serve their community.
- Once the vision is determined, you’ll be our primary technology translator, acting as the bridge between a customer’s “I wish we could…” and our system’s “Here’s how we do it.” You’ll help our customers configure and launch tools that don’t just look good on paper, but actually tackle their toughest daily hurdles.
- You’ll use your workforce experience and expertise to see the big picture while also understanding the nuances and tiny details of the business. You’ll turn high-level workforce directives (referral processes, case management, programmatic financial tracking, labor exchange requirements, etc.) into clear technical process flows inside Career Edge.
- We don't do "tech for tech’s sake." You’ll guide workforce boards to move past just using a new tool and help them master it to change lives. You’re workforce expertise is the secret ingredient that turns a digital platform into a community superpower.
Who You Are
- A dynamic career journey combining a strong academic foundation (Bachelor's or higher) with over 5 years of experience in workforce development.
- Your background spans workforce services at multiple levels—ideally across boards, regions, or states—giving you a ground-up understanding of service delivery.
- You have experience collaborating with state and local workforce boards, managing regional differences, and navigating complex, locally-specific requirements.
- You are fluent in both 'workforce' and 'technology,' possessing deep, 5+ years of specific knowledge in WIOA, TANF, SNAP, and other workforce-related contracts/programs.
- More than just knowledgeable, you have the confidence to challenge assumptions and translate technology capabilities into practical, jargon-free solutions that actually work for customers.
- With 5+ years of advanced project management, you thrive managing multiple complex initiatives and adjusting your altitude, seamlessly transitioning from discussions with state-level leaders to supporting frontline staff.
- You're a meticulous, critical thinker comfortable in the unscripted 'messy middle' of transformations, bringing strong opinions held lightly and the speed, research skills, and accuracy needed to excel under pressure.
- Confidentiality, sensitivity, and tact are paramount, paired with exceptional time-management, organization, verbal and written communication.
How We Work
- High trust, high accountability
- We obsess about our customers and the people they serve
- We value action over perfection, and iterate to get better every day
Travel: Substantial. Expect significant time on-site with state and local customers during active implementations. We’ll be straight with you about this in the interview.
