Description
- Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. Space-rated wire harnesses don’t get a second chance once they’re integrated onto a satellite — every splice, crimp, and routing decision has to be right the first time. We’re looking for a Hardware Development Specialist who lives and breathes aerospace harnessing: someone who can look at a bundle, a connector, or a routing plan and immediately know whether it meets the standard. You’ll be the harnessing authority inside our development lab — the person engineering teams come to when a new build needs to get off the ground, and the person our harnessing technicians come to when a build needs a second set of expert eyes. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Key job responsibilities ● Fabricate, inspect, and rework space/aerospace-grade wire harnesses and cable assemblies to standardized workmanship specifications ● Serve as the primary lab point of contact for engineering teams standing up new harness builds — reviewing drawings/ICDs, flagging manufacturability issues, and helping scope build approach before work starts ● Perform quality checks and workmanship verification on harnessing work produced by lab technicians, providing hands-on coaching and correction against workmanship standards ● Support the full arc of harness development: prototyping, development builds, and test/qualification support ● Maintain and troubleshoot harnessing-specific tooling (crimpers, calibration status, splice/solder equipment) and identify process or tooling gaps ● Own harnessing material and lab stock — wire, connectors, backshells, splices, heat shrink, and consumables — including recommending what stock the lab should carry ● Maintain accurate inventory levels, conduct regular stock audits, and flag shortages or obsolete/expired material (e.g., shelf-life-limited adhesives or solder) ● Contribute to and help refine harness build documentation — work instructions, build travelers, inspection criteria ● Operate within documented procedures and standards; escalate ambiguous or non-conforming conditions appropriately rather than making unilateral calls outside the standard About the team The Amazon Leo Development Operations (DevOps) team builds and maintains the labs and technical infrastructure that support hardware development across the program — from early prototyping through qualification testing. Our harnessing capability is a critical part of that infrastructure: nearly every subsystem that moves through our labs depends on a harness built right the first time. We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on development environment and takes real pride in workmanship. You’ll work side-by-side with engineering teams standing up new hardware and with lab technicians building it, so clear communication and a coaching mindset matter as much as technical skill.
