Description
- Join our Security Issue Management (SIM) team within Amazon Security Experiences (ASE) as a Manager of Software Development, where you'll lead a team of engineers building and evolving Shepherd - Amazon's centralized platform for security issue management and remediation. This role requires a strong technical leader who can drive delivery of key platform capabilities that enable builders to understand, prioritize, and resolve their security obligations with speed and clarity. Your team will deliver features that surface actionable security findings - spanning host patching, cloud security, source code vulnerabilities, and security review findings - to over 65,000 monthly active users across SDO and AWS. Your expertise in building high-scale platforms, driving automation, and delivering customer-obsessed experiences will be instrumental in reducing remediation times and ensuring Amazon maintains its Security Bar. You'll partner with other teams within the SIM organization, vulnerability management stakeholders, and security campaign owners across the company, gaining exposure to diverse security domains while making a measurable impact on Amazon's security posture. Key job responsibilities * Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software development engineers (SDEs) responsible for core Shepherd platform capabilities. * Own the technical roadmap and delivery of features that improve the builder experience for security issue resolution, including issue surfacing, prioritization, ECD (Expected Completion Date) management, and escalation workflows. * Drive automation initiatives, including programmatic reviews and auto-remediation pathways, to reduce builder toil while maintaining security rigor. * Partner with vulnerability management teams, security campaign owners, and peer SIM teams to ensure platform capabilities meet the needs of diverse security domains. * Ensure operational excellence through robust testing, monitoring, alarming, and incident response processes for a high-availability platform serving tens of thousands of monthly active users. * Collaborate with product management, UX, and data engineering to deliver data-driven improvements to issue health metrics, remediation times, and customer satisfaction. * Drive the consolidation roadmap - migrating security issue management from fragmented tooling into Shepherd's unified experience across AWS and SDO. * Champion engineering best practices including code quality, design reviews, and sustainable on-call operations. A day in the life The Amazon Security Experience (ASE) Team is dedicated to building tools that ensure builders across Amazon create software and hardware services that meet the Amazon Security Bar. Our mission is critical to protecting Amazon's customers, data, and systems through consistent security practices. We work with teams spanning every corner of Amazon, which gives our team members exposure to diverse technologies and business domains while making a significant impact on the company's overall security posture. As we continue to innovate, we're focused on creating scalable, intuitive solutions that make security best practices accessible to all builders. Your day begins with a stand-up meeting where your team provides updates on current security tool development projects. You'll spend time reviewing architecture proposals for new security features, then meet with business teams to understand their specific workflows and security needs. In the afternoon, you might analyze usage metrics of existing security tools to identify improvement opportunities, collaborate with partner teams on integration points, and provide coaching to team members on complex security challenges.
