Job Description
- This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Platform Engineer based in the United States. We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to help build, deploy, and operate cloud infrastructure supporting enterprise-grade real-time data platforms. In this role, you will focus on self-managed deployments across customer-controlled accounts, sovereign cloud environments, and US Government cloud infrastructure. You will work extensively with Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, and CI/CD automation to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable platforms across AWS, Azure, and GCP. Beyond infrastructure development, you will take ownership of production operations, incident response, system reliability, and continuous improvement. You will also contribute to security hardening and regulatory compliance initiatives, including FedRAMP requirements. Working closely with engineering teams and customer stakeholders, you will help expand the availability of modern cloud solutions in highly regulated environments.
- Accountabilities As a Platform Engineer, you will combine infrastructure engineering, production operations, automation, and customer-facing technical collaboration. Your main responsibilities will include: Deploy, operate, and upgrade self-managed cloud environments within customer-controlled accounts, sovereign clouds, and US Government cloud platforms, including AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, and GCP Assured Workloads. Support deployments in air-gapped and egress-restricted environments, including offline image distribution and private container registry management. Design, develop, and maintain infrastructure-as-code, Helm charts, and automation for provisioning Kubernetes clusters across EKS, AKS, GKE, and alternative Kubernetes distributions. Manage the operational health of deployed environments, including monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, patching, cluster lifecycle management, Kubernetes upgrades, database operations, and backup and recovery. Participate in production support and incident response, lead root-cause analyses, and implement long-term improvements through automation, documentation, and operational runbooks. Establish and maintain security baselines for regulated environments, including hardened images, FIPS-validated cryptography, restricted RBAC, network segmentation, private connectivity, and secrets management using HashiCorp Vault. Contribute to FedRAMP and related compliance initiatives by implementing technical controls, preparing supporting evidence, assisting with audits, and maintaining accurate documentation. Collaborate directly with customer platform and security teams during deployments and upgrades, translating technical constraints into reliable configurations and sharing feedback with internal engineering teams. Build, enhance, and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated testing coverage for infrastructure and platform components. Contribute to platform microservices developed with Java and Spring Boot, particularly where infrastructure and application services intersect. Participate in agile development practices, design reviews, technical demonstrations, and documentation activities. Share technical knowledge and mentor colleagues on self-managed infrastructure, regulated environments, and government cloud deployment practices. Requirements The ideal candidate is an experienced infrastructure or platform engineer with strong Kubernetes expertise, a solid understanding of cloud architecture, and hands-on experience operating production systems. You should be comfortable navigating complex technical environments, working with customers, and supporting security and compliance requirements. The following qualifications are expected: US citizenship is mandatory due to government and FedRAMP-related customer requirements. Eligibility to obtain the required security clearance. Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience. At least 5 years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or production engineering, with direct responsibility for production systems. Advanced practical knowledge of Kubernetes, including cluster provisioning and lifecycle management, networking (CNI, ingress, and service mesh fundamentals), storage (CSI), RBAC, autoscaling, and workload troubleshooting across managed and self-hosted distributions. Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools, particularly Terraform, and application packaging and deployment using Helm. Strong Linux administration fundamentals and cloud networking expertise, including VPC/VNet architecture, routing, load balancing, VPNs, private connectivity, DNS, TLS, and PKI. Hands-on experience with at least two major cloud providers: AWS, Azure, and GCP, including government or sovereign cloud environments, or the ability to quickly adapt to new providers. Working knowledge of FedRAMP Moderate or High, NIST SP 800-53, FIPS 140-2/140-3, and security hardening frameworks such as CIS Benchmarks or DISA STIGs. Experience implementing, maintaining, or providing evidence for security and compliance controls in cloud environments. Practical experience managing secrets, credentials, and certificates using HashiCorp Vault or comparable technologies. Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and automated testing for infrastructure and services, including unit, integration, functional, and performance testing. Programming or scripting proficiency in at least one general-purpose language, such as Go, Python, or Java, with the ability to read and contribute to Java/Spring Boot services. Experience operating relational and search databases in production environments, such as MySQL and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch. Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions clearly to customers, government stakeholders, and cross-functional teams. A proactive and adaptable mindset, with the ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, document technical decisions, and contribute effectively within collaborative engineering teams. Nice-to-Have Qualifications: Previous experience deploying or operating SaaS platforms within customer-owned accounts, sovereign clouds, or air-gapped environments. Hands-on experience with AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, GCP Assured Workloads, or Department of Defense Impact Level environments. Experience supporting FedRAMP authorization processes, including third-party assessment activities, System Security Plan (SSP) development, POA&M management, and continuous monitoring. Familiarity with OpenStack-based infrastructure or other non-hyperscaler Kubernetes platforms. Experience with application performance monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana, particularly in environments with data residency restrictions. Knowledge of event-driven architectures and event brokers such as Solace, Kafka, or Amazon SNS. Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or Salt. Familiarity with microservices architecture patterns and REST API development. Experience with JavaScript client-side frameworks such as React, Angular, or Aurelia. Relevant professional certifications, including CKA, CKAD, CKS, or advanced cloud provider certifications. Benefits Hybrid-first working environment offering flexibility and work-life balance. Opportunity to collaborate with highly skilled professionals and experienced engineering teams. Meaningful technical challenges involving enterprise-scale cloud infrastructure, real-time data platforms, and government environments. Access to training programs and professional development opportunities to support continuous learning and career growth. Inclusive, values-driven culture built around craftsmanship, trust, courage, freedom, momentum, humility, and human experience. Collaborative and creative workplace that encourages innovation, knowledge sharing, and a positive team atmosphere. Opportunity to work with a diverse portfolio of major international enterprise customers. Commitment to a fair, inclusive, and transparent recruitment process. Support and reasonable accommodations throughout the recruitment process.
