Department Overview
The Radio Network Planning (RNP) team provides radio networking planning services to the regional systems and field engineering teams with the International region (APAC and EMEA). The services provided include: radio coverage predictions; coverage optimisation; traffic planning; frequency planning; drive test data analysis and reports; GIS Data sourcing/conversion; microwave link planning; customer presentations and basic RF training. Services are provided throughout the lifecycle of a radio system from pre-sale design through deployment to in-service support.
Job Description
The Radio Network Planning Engineer reports to the RNP Manager and is responsible for the creation of radio network plans for mission critical radio communications networks. These networks are typically for government public safety organisations (e.g. Police, Fire Services, Border Guards, etc.) but also include other sectors such as public transport (Airports, Metros, etc.) and utilities (e.g. water and electricity distribution). Our customers rely on our radio communications network in the moments that matter and we help to ensure the safety of both workers and citizens. The networks typically employ Land Mobile Radio (LMR) technologies such as APCO25, TETRA or DMR. The responsibilities of the role include:
Pre-Sale
Discussing coverage requirements with potential customers
Creating initial coverage and frequency plans using radio planning tools
Evaluating tender requirements
Creating input for proposals (coverage maps, descriptions, coverage statistics, site configurations)
Presenting solutions to customers
Post-Sale
Liaising with site acquisition teams, transmission planning and systems engineers
Creating detailed RF network plans including coverage maps, frequency plans, neighbour lists, equipment lists, and coverage verification plans.
Support coverage optimisation activities including site visits as required.
Analysing drive test data for optimisation and coverage acceptance and producing reports.
Basic Requirements
Specific Knowledge and Skills
Ideally candidates will have 10+ years of experience in planning mobile radio networks (Preferably private LMR networks). The following are the most important attributes for the role:
A track record of successfully planning Radio Access Networks (RANs) for large mobile communications networks
Proficient with at least one radio network planning software application (e.g. HTZ Communications, Atoll, etc).
Proficient with GIS tools such as GlobalMapper, QGIS or MapInfo
Good understanding of mobile radio technologies (TETRA, ASTRO and DMR)
Hands-on experience of RAN implementation (e.g. site surveys, site RF design, installation and commissioning, drive testing)
Experience of radio planning in a pre-sales environment (e.g. proposal response, customer presentations, etc)
Must be fluent in Polish and English Language
A demonstrated ability to write clear and accurate technical reports
Excellent communications skills and the confidence to present solutions to customers
A willingness to establish and develop professional relationships remotely as colleagues and customers will be located throughout APAC and EMEA
