Recruiting Specialist
Centre for Effective Altruism • Remote - Global
Posted: August 17, 2026
Job Description
We're hiring a Recruiting Specialist to join the recruiting team at the Centre for Effective Altruism. This is a senior individual contributor role: you'll own full-cycle hiring rounds end-to-end, take on team-wide recruiting projects with significant autonomy, and help coach and develop other members of the recruiting team. You'll report to the Recruiting Manager and work closely with hiring managers across the organization.
About CEA
The Centre for Effective Altruism (CEA) stewards the movement of people putting effective altruism principles into practice to solve the world's most pressing problems. We’re working to build a flourishing future by applying evidence, reason, and compassion to challenges like global poverty, animal suffering, and existential risks.
Our work centers on growing and supporting a global community of people who rigorously analyze where they can do the most good – and take action on those insights. Current strategic priorities include increasing understanding of effective altruism and its principles, growing the number of people who are motivated by EA principles to take significant action to address pressing problems, and diversifying funding sources for high-impact work.
We had significant success in 2025, building momentum within CEA. Program participation (e.g., events, courses, groups) grew by 20-25% year over year. We merged with EA Funds and are rapidly scaling up our capacity for grantmaking and associated fundraising.
In 2026, we’ve maintained ambitious momentum while building the foundations for a step-change in the wider EA ecosystem’s growth trajectory from 2027 onwards.
About the Recruiting Team
CEA continues to grow. Since 2025, our headcount has grown from 42 to 72 core staff, with plans to add dozens more roles in 2026 and into 2027.
To support this growth, we built out a dedicated recruiting function over the last year – professionalizing our hiring and building the capacity to attract exceptional talent to CEA and the EA movement. We're a small team running full-cycle hiring rounds across the organization.
Our current focus is on hiring efficiently at scale while maintaining the high standards CEA's mission demands. Longer term, we're interested in expanding the ways our team can support hiring across the broader EA ecosystem.
Reporting to the Recruiting Manager, you'll work alongside a small team of recruiters each independently running full-cycle hiring rounds, and will partner with hiring managers across the organization.
About the role
We’re looking for a Recruiting Specialist to join our growing Recruitment Team. You'll own hiring rounds from start to finish, working alongside hiring managers each step of the way, helping us attract and hire high-quality candidates across a variety of roles. You'll also take on internally-focused work leading team-wide process improvement projects, coaching hiring managers and newer recruiters, and potentially owning a specific area of recruiting operations (e.g., sourcing, employer brand) over time. This role is ideal for someone who has enough recruiting fluency to hit the ground running on hiring rounds, and who's ready to take on broader ownership without close oversight. We have ambitious hiring plans that we currently don’t have the recruiting capacity to achieve - by joining our team you will counterfactually increase our pace of hiring, and thus our ability to grow and support the EA community.
Key Responsibilities
Run full-cycle hiring rounds. You'll partner with hiring managers to fill critical roles across the organization, including:
Understanding hiring manager needs and calibrating with them throughout the process; serving as a thought partner and resource on recruiting best practices
Writing compelling job descriptions and launching open roles
Sourcing and attracting candidates through proactive outreach and network building
Screening applications and conducting initial interviews
Supporting the development and grading of test tasks in collaboration with hiring managers
Coordinating interview schedules between candidates and hiring teams
Conducting reference checks and managing offer processes
Maintaining high standards and an excellent candidate experience throughout, ensuring communications reflect CEA's values
Project-managing hiring rounds, keeping everything moving on time to meet recruiting targets, and adapting in response to changing priorities
Tracking and maintaining candidate pipeline data
Beyond your own hiring rounds, you will:
Own project management of team-wide recruiting projects, in line with the team's goals and principles
Proactively identify improvement opportunities and make recommendations in line with CEA’s strategy and values
Train and coach hiring managers on how to run effective interviews
Support the onboarding and training of new recruiters, and serve as a resource and sounding board for other team members
Act as a key source (and enforcer) of the recruiting team's policies and practices with hiring managers
Occasionally represent CEA externally at EAG conferences and events as agreed upon
Occasionally act as the main point of contact for contractor engagements
Take on additional responsibilities from time to time, potentially including longer-term ownership of a specific area of recruiting operations (e.g., employer brand, sourcing)
What we're looking for
You might be a good fit for this role if you:
Have some recruiting experience. You don't need to have worked as a full-time, dedicated recruiter, but you should have a track record of running or materially contributing to hiring processes, whether as part of a broader people ops or generalist role, as a hiring manager who has personally led multiple rounds, or as a recruiter. We want to see evidence you can run a hiring round well.
Are organized and detail-oriented: you can manage multiple workstreams simultaneously without dropping balls, and know how to prioritize when things get busy.
Have strong internal stakeholder management skills and instincts: you enjoy working closely with teams across the organization, can adapt to different working styles and priorities, and are comfortable navigating situations where you need to push back or redirect without friction.
Adapt well to shifting priorities: you're not thrown off by the need to pivot. You regularly evaluate your own priorities and can quickly recalibrate as needs change.
Communicate clearly and reliably: your communication, both verbal and written, is clear and compelling. You take communication seriously, and can be relied upon to steward the experience of both candidates and hiring managers throughout the process.
Make sound judgments under pressure and uncertainty: you're comfortable making trade-offs and decisions when timelines are tight and information is incomplete.
Demonstrate high discretion and professionalism: you'll be dealing with confidential and sensitive information and should have strong instincts on what's shared on a need-to-know basis.
Enjoy managing projects end-to-end, including ones with less structure than a standard hiring round.
Are motivated by principles-first EA: you're familiar with EA ideas and care about the mission and principles.
Are willing to travel: you'll travel to conferences and team retreats a few times a year internationally.
Other information
This is a full-time, remote position. We prefer applicants who are able to work in time zones between US Pacific Time and CET.
Start date: We'd ideally have you start as soon as possible, but we can be flexible on timeline.
Compensation:
US: For this role we offer a base salary of $100,000 - $110,000 and a 10% unconditional 401k contribution.
Other locations: For candidates outside the US, base salary is converted to local currency using a fixed exchange rate, and total compensation is adjusted based on the cost of employment and fixed local benefit costs to create an equivalent package.
Benefits globally include private health insurance, flexible work hours, a $6,000 annual professional development allowance, a $6,000 mental health support allowance, extended parental leave, ergonomic equipment, 25 days of paid vacation, and more.
This role will involve travel. There are likely 4-5 trips annually to attend team retreats and other events, including several international trips.
We are committed to fostering a culture of inclusion and encourage individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply. We especially encourage applications from self-identified women and people of colour who are excited about contributing to our mission. The Centre for Effective Altruism is an equal opportunity employer.
