The Opportunity

The Regional Sales Director is a first-line commercial leader responsible for building, leading, and developing a high-performing field team focused on post-bariatric hypoglycemia (PBH). This opportunity includes building and leading a team of highly motivated and accountable Territory Business Managers. Regional Sales Directors will work closely with their teams to advance PBH disease-state education and deepen understanding of the diagnosis and referral journey.

This leader will execute national strategy into a focused regional plan and establish clear priorities. Success requires strong clinical and business acumen, disciplined execution, and the ability to navigate the complex diagnosis, referral, treatment, reimbursement, and patient-support pathways associated with a rare metabolic condition.

This opportunity is based in New England and incumbents for this role should reside within the region.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, lead, coach, and retain a high-performing team of field sales professionals; establish clear expectations, individualized development plans, and succession readiness.
  • Own the regional business plan, translating PBH brand priorities into territory strategies, account plans, customer-engagement objectives, resource allocation, and measurable standards of execution.
  • Establish a disciplined operating rhythm that includes field coaching, business reviews, performance tracking, opportunity planning, and timely course correction to ensure performance objectives are met or exceeded.
  • Use CRM data, market intelligence, account insights, referral-network dynamics, and leading indicators to identify opportunities and risks, prioritize resources, and improve regional performance.
  • Spend substantial time in the field observing customer engagement and providing timely, behavior-based coaching on clinical dialogue, pre-call planning, account strategy, reimbursement, patient-support resources, and execution excellence.
  • Set clear performance expectations, recognize strong performance, and address capability or execution gaps through direct feedback, documented development actions, and appropriate performance management.
  • Develop productive relationships with priority health systems, bariatric programs, endocrinology and metabolic care teams, key experts, and other stakeholders involved in PBH diagnosis, referral, treatment, access, and patient support.
  • Manage the regional budget and other company resources responsibly, ensuring regional investments align with strategic priorities and company policies.
  • Model Amylyx values and maintain the highest standards of ethics, compliance, accountability, inclusion, and respect for patients and caregivers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive pharmaceutical or biotechnology commercial experience, including at least 3 years of successful field sales leadership and people management; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated success in rare disease, endocrinology, metabolic disease, or another specialty market involving complex diagnosis, referral, treatment, reimbursement, and patient-support pathways.
  • Proven record of recruiting and developing talent, leading through change, setting high standards, and delivering results through others in a compliant manner.
  • Ability to translate enterprise and brand priorities into clear regional and territory plans, measurable objectives, and consistent field execution.
  • Strong business and analytical acumen, including experience using CRM, market, account, and performance data for opportunity assessment, resource allocation, and decision-making.
  • Track record of effective matrix leadership with Marketing, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Patient Services, Commercial Operations, Training, and Compliance partners.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, influencing, and relationship-management skills, with the judgment and adaptability to operate in an evolving pre-launch and launch environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet the travel requirements of the role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building or scaling a field team and leading launch-readiness or product-launch execution in a rare disease or specialty market.
  • Knowledge of bariatric surgery care pathways, endocrinology, hypoglycemia, specialty pharmacy, reimbursement, and patient-support services.
  • Established understanding of the healthcare landscape, including priority health systems, integrated delivery networks, and referral networks.

Work Location and Conditions

  • This is a field-based role supporting the aligned region. The successful candidate should reside within the region and within reasonable access to a major commercial airport.
  • Travel is expected approximately 60-70% of the time, including regular field coaching, customer meetings, regional and national meetings, and periodic travel to Amylyx’s corporate office in Cambridge, MA. Travel may include air travel, driving, and public transportation.
  • When working remotely, you must have access to a setting that meets all requirements of the role, including privacy, reliable internet access, phone access, and the ability to communicate by video conference.
  • Due to business considerations related to health insurance coverage and state tax regulations, Amylyx is unable to hire employees who reside and/or work in certain states. Current hiring eligibility will be confirmed during the recruiting process.
