As a Senior Software Engineer II on our Connected Devices team, you will set the technical direction for embedded software that powers Axon's next generation of public safety devices, including body-worn cameras, in-car cameras and the related devices. You will shape architecture decisions that directly impact mission-critical moments for law enforcement and first responders around the world.

What You'll Do

Location: This role is based out of our Ho Chi Minh Office and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation. Reports to: Sr. Engineering Manager / Engineering Director

  • Own the technical direction for the squad, translating product goals into a clear engineering strategy and driving architectural decisions for embedded software systems.
  • Lead design and architecture reviews for major components, features, and systems, holding a high bar on stability, performance, and safety-critical quality.
  • Write well-tested, maintainable code and lead technical design and code reviews that elevate standards across the team.
  • Mentor and coach middle and senior engineers, actively growing the next generation of technical leaders on the team.
  • Drive AI-assisted development practices within the squad, establishing quality gates, review protocols, and reusable workflows that make AI adoption practical and safe.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management, Design, and cross-functional Engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions that delight customers.
  • Identify and integrate the latest open source technologies to advance product capabilities while maintaining reliability in a mission-critical environment.
  • Improve engineering processes, including long-term technical planning, sprint execution, and continuous operational readiness improvements.

What You Bring

Required Skills

  • 10+ years experience of professional software development in C/C++, Go, Python and/or another systems programming language
  • Strong experience developing, debugging, and shipping embedded software on Linux-based or RTOS-based devices.
  • Demonstrated track record of building well-tested software, including unit, integration, and system-level testing.
  • 5+ years mentoring junior team members and/or leading small teams
  • Understanding of Computer Science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, run-time analysis, object-oriented design and code quality verification
  • Networking knowledge (such as TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, DHCP, tunneling to support a diverse array of network configurations) is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Linux-based embedded environments and real-time constraints.
  • Experience working on consumer or professional hardware products with tight security, low latency and high stability requirements.
  • You follow the latest developments in embedded software and open source technologies, and can distinguish between promising new practices and passing trends.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools across the software development lifecycle, with a strong understanding of review, validation, and safety guardrails.
