Job Description
REE Medical is seeking a Senior Instructional Designer to build training content, SOPs, and operational documentation from the ground up. This role is embedded directly within operations and will work hands-on with subject matter experts to extract undocumented processes, design curriculum, and produce structured training materials across multiple teams. You will be responsible for creating e-learning content, facilitator guides, assessments, and process documentation in an environment where most institutional knowledge currently lives as tribal knowledge, scattered recordings, or informal notes. This is a builder role. You are designing and producing the training materials that will define how this organization onboards, upskills, and scales.
Key Responsibilities
Content Development & Instructional Design
- Build training content, SOPs, and workflow documentation from scratch for multiple operational teams with distinct processes and skill requirements
- Design structured learning paths that sequence content logically for new hire onboarding, cross-training, and ongoing skill development
- Create clear, engaging instructional content that breaks down complex multi-step workflows into consumable, retention-focused training
- Develop reusable templates and content standards that enable future content creators across the organization to build consistently
Process Documentation & SME Collaboration
- Conduct structured interviews and working sessions with subject matter experts and team managers to extract, validate, and document workflows
- Observe and map operational processes that currently exist only as tribal knowledge, turning "how we actually do things" into documented, trainable content
- Partner with leadership and team managers to identify training gaps, prioritize content builds, and validate accuracy of documented processes
- Translate complex operational procedures into structured documentation that serves both as training material and as living reference
Training Program Management
- Own the content architecture, determining how training is organized, categorized, and sequenced across teams and roles
- Establish content governance standards including version control, review cycles, update triggers, and ownership assignments
- Build and manage a content maintenance cadence, ensuring SOPs and training stay current as processes change
- Provide regular progress updates to leadership on build status, content coverage, and identified gaps
Continuous Improvement
- Support process enhancement initiatives by updating training and documentation as workflows are refined
- Identify opportunities where clearer documentation or better training design can improve operational performance
- Build feedback loops with teams to identify where training is falling short and iterate accordingly
- Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Design, Organizational Development, Communications, or equivalent relevant experience
- 5+ years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or L&D content creation, with at least 2 years focused on operational or process-based training
- Demonstrated portfolio of training programs, SOPs, or curriculum built from scratch in environments where documentation did not previously exist
- Experience supporting complex, multi-department operations with 50+ employees across distinct teams, each with unique workflows and training needs
- Proven experience leading SME extraction sessions, including structuring interviews, validating process accuracy, and converting verbal knowledge into published, structured training content
- Experience architecting training platforms end-to-end, including information hierarchy, role-based learning paths, content categorization, and user navigation
- Strong written communication with the ability to translate highly technical, multi-step operational processes into clear, accessible training for varied skill levels
- Experience establishing and maintaining content update cycles tied to process changes, ensuring training never falls out of alignment with live operations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Trainual or similar SOP-focused training platforms (Lessonly, Guru, Confluence, Notion)
- Experience building training infrastructure for organizations during periods of rapid growth or operational scaling (2x+ headcount growth)
- Background in operations-heavy environments with multi-step, compliance-sensitive workflows requiring high accuracy
- Experience integrating multimedia content (Loom recordings, screen captures, embedded video) into structured training modules
- Experience working in remote-first or distributed team environments across multiple time zones
- Comfort working across multiple operational systems (project management, CRM, communication platforms) and documenting how they interconnect within workflows
- Experience creating train-the-trainer programs or enabling managers to become content contributors within an established framework
