In this role, you will serve as the primary onsite safety authority, ensuring field operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with federal and project-specific regulations. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary project teams, subcontractors, and clients on impactful environmental projects involving remediation, demolition, waste management, and infrastructure stabilization. - Accountabilities: Develop, review, and maintain project-specific health and safety documentation including Accident Prevention Plans (APPs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and Health and Safety Plans (HASPs). Serve as the primary onsite health and safety point of contact for field personnel, subcontractors, and client representatives throughout project execution. Conduct daily onsite safety briefings and ensure all personnel understand applicable safety protocols, hazards, and emergency procedures. Monitor project activities to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, USACE EM 385-1-1 requirements, and corporate safety standards. Maintain accurate safety documentation, including inspection reports, corrective action logs, incident records, certifications, and compliance tracking. Update hazard analyses and safety procedures as project scopes evolve, communicating changes clearly to field teams and stakeholders. Perform safety audits, inspections, and compliance evaluations across remediation, demolition, excavation, and environmental construction activities. Implement and enforce emergency response procedures while ensuring readiness for incident management and hazard mitigation. Collaborate with project managers, technical teams, and corporate safety leadership to support safe project delivery and operational excellence. Lead internal and client-facing meetings related to safety planning, compliance performance, and corrective action implementation. Support a strong safety culture through proactive communication, training reinforcement, and continuous improvement initiatives. Requirements: Minimum 6 years of experience serving as a Site Safety and Health Officer on construction or environmental remediation projects. At least 3 years of experience supporting projects involving environmental contamination, hazardous materials, or remediation activities. Strong knowledge of USACE Safety and Health Requirements Manual EM 385-1-1 and ability to meet Class I SSHO qualifications. Hands-on experience with health and safety procedures related to hazardous waste, air quality, wastewater, stormwater, spill prevention, decontamination, and environmental inspections. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and applicable state occupational health and safety standards. Experience supporting environmental construction activities such as demolition, excavation, grading, stabilization, and environmental sampling. Proven ability to conduct project safety audits, incident documentation, and corrective action management. Excellent communication, organizational, and report-writing skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel. Current 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification with active 8-hour refresher certification required. OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification and current CPR/First Aid certification required. Ability to travel extensively, up to 70% of the time, for long-duration field assignments across the United States. Preferred certifications include Excavation Competent Person, Fall Protection Competent Person, Confined Space Supervisor, Rigging Training, and OSHA HAZWOPER Supervisor Training. Experience working with USACE or EPA clients is considered a strong advantage.
