Job Description

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build the next generation of Oura’s health experiences. In this role you’ll work across services and platforms – collaborating with mobile, backend, data, and product partners – to ship features that meaningfully improve our members’ health and wellbeing.

You’ll join one of our cross-functional product squads (for example Metabolic Health, Heart Health, Movement, or Advisor) depending on business need, your background, and your interests. You’ll be a key technical partner in taking ideas from early discovery all the way to reliable, scalable production systems.

This is an on-site (Helsinki or Oulu) or remote Finland-based senior role. We are not able to relocate people for this role.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and maintain production services and features that power Oura’s consumer experiences, from APIs and data pipelines to user-facing flows in our mobile apps.
  • Partner closely with iOS, Android, data science, product, design, and health experts in a cross-functional squad to deliver high-quality, member-facing functionality.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of problems: clarifying requirements, proposing solutions, driving technical design, implementing, testing, releasing, and iterating based on data and feedback.
  • Improve code quality, performance, and reliability through thoughtful refactoring, observability, and automation (including testing, alerting, and deployment practices).
  • Contribute to and sometimes lead architectural discussions that span multiple services or surfaces, helping us scale our systems and keep them resilient as we grow.
  • Mentor other engineers through code reviews, pairing, design reviews, and informal coaching, raising the overall bar for the team.

Depending on the squad, you may also:

  • Integrate with external partners and platforms (for example biosensors, payment providers, or AI platforms).
  • Help design and ship AI- or ML-powered features, working closely with data science and health science partners.

How We Build With AI

At Oura, AI is becoming a core part of how we build software. We expect senior engineers to use state-of-the-art AI tools to ramp up quickly in new domains, explore solution spaces, accelerate implementation, improve testing and documentation, and increase the speed and quality of delivery across the stack. You’ll have access to best-in-class tools from leading vendors across coding, research, prototyping, and workflow automation, and we continuously review the landscape to keep our toolset current based on real-world performance. We’re looking for engineers who are excited to work this way and who can turn rapidly evolving AI capabilities into better products, faster learning, and stronger technical execution.

We’d love to have you on our team if you have

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, shipping and operating production systems end-to-end.
  • Strong experience in more than one modern backend or application stack (for example Python, TypeScript/Node, Kotlin, Swift, or similar) and willingness to learn others as needed.
  • A track record of taking ownership of complex, sometimes ambiguous projects and driving them to high-quality outcomes with minimal supervision.
  • Solid understanding of system design fundamentals: APIs, data modeling, reliability, performance, and trade-offs between different architectures and technologies.
  • A product mindset: you care about the member experience, not just the code, and you’re comfortable collaborating on problem framing, scoping, and iteration.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including working effectively with cross-functional teammates in different locations and time zones.
  • A proactive, “get-stuff-done” attitude and comfort working in a fast-moving, experiment-friendly environment.

We also appreciate if you have

You don’t need all of these to apply, but they’re a plus:

  • Experience building mobile applications, native or cross-platform (React Native, Flutter, ..)
  • Experience with cloud-native architectures (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, managed databases, queues, and event-driven systems).
  • Experience with observability and operational excellence: metrics, logging, tracing, alerting, and debugging in production.
  • Background in health, wellness, fitness, or consumer products, or personal interest in topics like sleep, activity, cardiovascular, or metabolic health.
  • Experience mentoring other engineers, leading technical initiatives, or driving improvements that benefit multiple teams or services.
  • Familiarity with building or integrating LLM-/ML-powered features in production systems.

Benefits

What we offer includes (may vary slightly by location)

  • Lunch and wellness benefits to support your everyday wellbeing.
  • Flexible working hours and a remote-friendly culture within Finland.
  • Collaborative, smart teammates across engineering, product, design, and health science.
  • An Oura Ring of your own, plus access to product improvements as we build them.
  • Occupational healthcare and a personal learning & development program.
  • Wellness Time Off and other policies that support sustainable high performance.
