Senior Software Engineer, Backend - Lodging

engine Remote - LATAM

No Relocation

Posted: July 21, 2026

Job Description

The Role

The Lodging team owns the entire backend behind Engine's highest-demand vertical: Search, Integrations, and Bookings. Three systems, one team, one set of priorities. Node.js powers Search and Integrations; Kotlin runs Bookings.

The business is scaling fast. Our Partner API is live and large external companies are integrating directly with Engine — which means moving business logic out of the frontend and building clean backend wrappers our partners can rely on. Work varies week to week: a pricing team request one week, a new supplier integration the next, a tricky data bug after that. High volume, high stakes, real ownership.

What You'll Do

  • Contribute across all three backend systems: Search, Integrations, and Bookings
  • Build and maintain business logic for the Partner API integration layer
  • Handle cross-team requests from Pricing, FinTech, Content, and Data — clarifying scope, driving to solutions
  • Partner closely with the PM, frontend lodging team, and supplier integrations lead
  • Own projects end to end: surface blockers, keep things moving, deliver

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development (Claude, Cursor, or equivalent) — we're expanding AI use across engineering
  • Cloud experience (AWS preferred)
  • Strong SQL and relational database fundamentals
  • A self-directed working style — you don't need daily direction; you find the work and drive it forward
  • Comfort with ambiguity — cross-team requests rarely arrive neatly scoped, and you know how to ask the right questions
  • Adaptable to shifting priorities — lodging moves fast, and plans change

Nice to Have:

  • Node.js or Kotlin experience (either is a strong plus given the stack)

This is a contractor role for candidates based in Latin America only. Applications for this role will be accepted through September 30th until the role is filled. We encourage you to apply early, as we may begin reviewing applications before the deadline.
