Description
- The Bot Management team within Traffic Engineering uses machine learning to separate human visitors from automated traffic and to detect and stop abusive bots in real time. As a Software Development Engineer II on this team, you will design, build, and operate the ML platform that powers these detection systems. You will take models from research into production, own them through training, evaluation, serving, and monitoring, and partner with Applied Scientists to continuously improve detection accuracy and system performance. If you want to work on high-scale, adversarial problems where your code directly protects customers and platform integrity, this role is for you. Key job responsibilities - Design, build, and operate production ML platform components for real-time bot detection, owning the full lifecycle from model training and evaluation through serving and monitoring. - Write high-quality, maintainable code and actively participate in code reviews, providing meaningful feedback to teammates and coaching others on engineering best practices. - Partner with Applied Scientists to operationalize research models into reliable, low-latency production systems that process traffic at Amazon scale. - Identify root causes of operational issues and implement permanent fixes, continuously improving system reliability, latency, and detection quality. - Collaborate across Traffic Engineering and related teams to align technical solutions with platform-wide requirements for scalability, performance, and security. A day in the life You will start your day reviewing operational metrics and addressing any alerts from the systems you own. From there, you might pair with a teammate on a design review, prototype a new feature, or refine an existing service to improve performance. Between code reviews and mentoring sessions with newer engineers, you will document your designs and share knowledge so the team can move faster together. About the team The Bot Management team sits within Amazon's Traffic Engineering organization, which is responsible for keeping the platform safe and reliable at the scale of every incoming request. Our team applies machine learning to an adversarial problem space where threats evolve constantly, and we build the ML platform that makes rapid detection and response possible. We are a collaborative, technically rigorous group that values learning and inclusive problem-solving. If you are excited about protecting the customer experience at Amazon scale, we would love to hear from you.
