Job Description
- This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer, Securities Finance based in Brazil. We are looking for a backend-focused Software Engineer to develop and operate the systems powering securities lending, borrowing, and brokerage infrastructure. In this role, you will help build reliable financial technology that supports customer-facing products, short-selling capabilities, and critical internal operational processes. You will take ownership of projects from initial problem discovery through implementation, deployment, and ongoing production support. Working with a globally distributed engineering team, you will develop APIs, data pipelines, and integrations that enable new products and revenue opportunities. You will also help improve system reliability, scalability, and performance while deepening your understanding of securities finance, collateral, settlement, and market regulations. This is an opportunity for an engineer who values technical excellence, accountability, and curiosity to make a meaningful impact on financial systems that customers depend on.
- Accountabilities Design, build, deploy, and maintain backend systems supporting securities lending, borrowing, and related brokerage services. Develop and enhance infrastructure for Fully Paid Securities Lending (FPSL), enabling customer securities to be lent and associated revenue to be shared with customers. Build and maintain customer short-borrowing capabilities, including systems that source hard-to-borrow securities. Develop partner-facing RESTful APIs, batch-processing pipelines, and integrations that support new products and revenue opportunities. Maintain and improve systems responsible for short-selling infrastructure, securities finance revenue, and essential internal brokerage operations. Take ownership of engineering projects from initial requirements and solution design through implementation, production deployment, and ongoing support. Improve the reliability, scalability, and performance of existing systems, addressing recurring incidents through root-cause analysis and lasting fixes. Design and operate data-intensive workflows, including scheduled batch jobs, file-based integrations, and reconciliation processes. Apply strong engineering fundamentals to identify and address failure scenarios across distributed systems, databases, networks, and infrastructure. Collaborate with engineering colleagues and relevant stakeholders to make sound technical decisions, assess trade-offs, and deliver maintainable solutions. Participate in the on-call rotation, respond to production incidents, and contribute to operational improvements that reduce recurring issues. Develop expertise in securities lending, collateral management, settlement processes, and the regulatory requirements governing short selling. Requirements At least 3 years of professional experience building and operating distributed systems in production environments. Strong proficiency in Go, PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes. Solid computer science and software engineering fundamentals, particularly in networking, databases, distributed systems, and their failure modes. Ability to design clear, effective RESTful APIs and evaluate existing API designs critically. Experience taking software projects from planning and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing production ownership. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make thoughtful technical decisions based on long-term impact and reversibility. A high degree of accountability, including the willingness to investigate and resolve unfamiliar technical problems without waiting for others to take ownership. Genuine curiosity about financial markets, brokerage infrastructure, and the systems that support securities trading and lending. Ability to communicate technical reasoning clearly, challenge decisions constructively, and collaborate effectively once a direction has been established. A commitment to building dependable financial systems where correctness, security, and reliability are essential. Preferred: Experience in securities clearing, securities settlement, securities finance, or related financial services infrastructure. Preferred: Familiarity with gRPC, Protobuf, Kafka or Redpanda, Grafana, Helm, and Docker. Preferred: Experience with Temporal or similar workflow orchestration technologies. Preferred: Comfort working with daily batch jobs, file-based integrations, and financial reconciliation processes. Preferred: Familiarity with broker-dealer operations, Regulation SHO (Reg SHO), or short-selling rules. Application detail: Include a specific deep-sea tunnel that fascinates you in your application, as requested in the original posting. Application materials: Be prepared to provide your resume, GitHub or GitLab profile, LinkedIn profile, and the location and time zone from which you will work. Benefits Competitive compensation: Salary details are not specified in the provided posting and should be confirmed during the hiring process. Remote work: Opportunity to work remotely from the Americas, including Brazil, subject to the role's location and time-zone requirements. Global collaboration: Work with an internationally distributed team of engineers, traders, and financial technology professionals. Technical ownership: Opportunity to lead projects end to end and influence systems supporting securities finance and brokerage operations. Professional development: Build practical expertise in distributed systems, financial infrastructure, securities lending, settlement, and market regulations.
