Responsibilities
  • Assess and route communications requests by reviewing incoming needs, recommending appropriate communications strategies, facilitating discussion with requestors, and driving actions through completion.
  • Develop and distribute clear, concise, plain-language communications tailored to stakeholder needs across internal and external audiences.
  • Produce executive-level content such as slide decks, emails, newsletters, video scripts, talking points, and key messages that support leadership objectives.
  • Create a wide range of digital content including newsletters, weekly emails, videos, infographics, presentations, SharePoint pages, and Microsoft Teams posts.
  • Design and analyze communications surveys, assisting in the creation, distribution, and analysis of annual surveys to inform messaging and improve effectiveness.
  • Coordinate and support executive engagements, including Town Halls, Executive Briefings, and Monthly Syncs, by preparing materials, ensuring objectives are met, and facilitating a smooth experience for participants.
  • Maintain and enhance SharePoint sites by updating content, improving usability, creating new pages, and retiring outdated materials to keep information organized and accessible.
  • Contribute to organizational storytelling by reinforcing the Health Services narrative consistently across communication channels.
  • Monitor trends and best practices in internal communications to recommend improvements to tools, processes, and strategies.
  • Ensure compliance and brand consistency, confirming all content adheres to VA and OIT branding guidelines and complies with Section 508 accessibility requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Resource Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field, and 5–7 years of related experience.
  • An additional 8–10 years of relevant experience may be substituted for education.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment within government, consulting, or a large organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop communication plans that support organizational priorities, change management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to anticipate and assess communication needs, identify gaps, and propose actionable strategies.
  • Experience supporting leadership or executives with communications materials.
  • Experience translating complex or technical information into accessible, plain-language messaging.
  • Proven ability to create compelling digital content such as graphics, videos, and SharePoint pages.
  • Strong facilitation, coordination, and meeting-support skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Experience
  • Familiarity with VA and OIT branding guidelines and Section 508 accessibility requirements.
  • Proficiency with communications and collaboration tooling (e.g., SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, email distribution platforms, survey tools, and graphic/video production software).
  • Experience supporting internal communications and employee engagement programs in a federal health IT environment, such as VA, DoD, HHS, or CMS.
  • Experience designing, distributing, and analyzing communications surveys to measure effectiveness.
