Job Description
Job Title: Technical Program Manager (TPM) – Tech & Software
Location: [Remote / Hybrid / On-site - City, State]
Job Type: [Full-Time / Part-Time / Contract]
Experience Level: [Mid-Level / Senior / 5+ Years]
Department: Product & Engineering / Program Management
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and strategic Technical Program Manager (TPM) to drive complex, cross-functional engineering initiatives from inception through delivery. In this role, you will sit at the intersection of product strategy, engineering execution, and business goals. You will partner closely with engineering leads, product managers, design, and executive leadership to align technical roadmaps, mitigate risks, and streamline delivery processes.
If you thrive on turning ambiguity into structured execution, unblocking high-performing technical teams, and optimizing software delivery workflows, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities
-
Program Leadership: Scope, plan, and manage complex end-to-end technical programs, aligning engineering schedules with product roadmaps and strategic business goals.
-
Cross-Functional Alignment: Act as the primary bridge between engineering, product management, design, QA, and business stakeholders to keep teams aligned on scope, milestones, and dependencies.
-
Risk & Issue Management: Proactively identify technical bottlenecks, architectural risks, and resource constraints, developing mitigation strategies before they impact timelines.
-
Process Optimization: Refine agile delivery frameworks (Scrum, Kanban) and establish lightweight metrics (e.g., velocity, cycle time, defect density) to continuously improve team efficiency.
-
Technical Communication: Translate complex technical challenges, architecture decisions, and project statuses into clear, actionable updates for executive leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
-
Resource & Capacity Planning: Collaborate with engineering leads to evaluate bandwidth, prioritize feature backlog items, and assign resources effectively across concurrent streams.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required Skills
-
Experience: [5+] years of program or project management experience within a fast-paced software, SaaS, or tech environment.
-
Technical Background: Prior experience as a software engineer, technical architect, or engineering manager—or equivalent hands-on experience navigating complex technical architecture, APIs, and cloud systems.
-
Methodologies & Tools: Mastery of Agile/Scrum methodologies and deep proficiency with project tracking platforms (Jira, Confluence, Linear, Asana).
-
Dependency & Risk Tracking: Demonstrated track record of managing multi-team dependencies, release cycles, and technical debt tradeoffs.
-
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to lead without direct authority.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
-
PMP, CSM (Certified ScrumMaster), or PMI-ACP certification.
-
Experience managing programs in cloud computing (AWS, GCP, Azure), microservices architecture, or AI/ML technologies.
-
Strong data analytics capability (SQL, Tableau, Looker) to build team dashboards and track program KPIs.
What We Offer
-
Competitive Salary: [$X,000 -$Y,000 / year based on experience]
-
Benefits: Comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans, plus 401(k) matching.
-
Work-Life Balance: Flexible working hours, hybrid/remote environment, and generous PTO.
-
Professional Growth: Sponsorship for industry certifications, management training, and clear pathways to leadership roles.
