Product Marketing Manager
Job Description
A powerful product. A story to tell. We’re hiring a Product Marketing Manager.
Hi there!
We’re Sweed, and we bring everything cannabis retailers need into one platform. Now we’re looking for a Product Marketing Manager who can turn a complex product into clear, compelling content that helps people understand what Sweed can do for their business.
You’ll get to know our platform inside and out, spend time with retailers, and shape how we tell our product story across blogs, emails, launches, and sales materials. This is a hands-on role with ownership of both content strategy and the writing that brings it to life.
About Us
At Sweed, we’re reimagining how cannabis retailers operate. Our enterprise-grade platform combines POS, eCommerce, Marketing, Analytics, and Inventory Management into a single, seamless solution—eliminating the need for multiple third-party tools.
We build for simplicity, scalability, and performance, making life easier for cannabis retailers while helping them grow their businesses.
Why We’re Doing This
We believe cannabis retailers deserve technology that makes running their businesses easier and serves their customers better.
The industry is evolving rapidly. We’re here to support that growth by making cannabis retail more efficient, accessible, and customer-friendly.
Where We Are Now
We’ve been on the market for seven years, continuously growing and refining our product. Our focus is on earning customer trust through better delivery, new capabilities, and a platform built for the complexities of cannabis retail.
As our platform grows, we need to make its value easier to understand. You’ll help connect specific product capabilities to the challenges retailers face, bringing more direction, consistency, and creativity to our content.
Team Structure
We’re a global team of over 250 people. Our development organization operates in cross-functional product teams, while our CEO, account management, and customer success teams are based in the United States.
You’ll join our US marketing team and work closely with colleagues across Product, Sales, Implementation, and Customer Success. Our product experts will be your partners in understanding the platform and keeping content accurate, while you own how that knowledge becomes engaging external communication.
What This Role Entails
Product & Customer Understanding — Learn the entire Sweed platform, join customer implementations, and speak with retailers to understand their workflows, challenges, and the problems our product solves.
Content Strategy & Execution — Own the product blog and email strategy, from choosing topics and formats to writing and publishing content. Build a consistent plan around customer needs, product priorities, and new releases.
Product Messaging & Storytelling — Turn technical features into clear benefits, memorable headlines, and stories that resonate with different retail audiences.
Launch Communications — Partner with Product to create announcements, release content, and supporting materials that explain what’s new and why it matters.
Sales Enablement & Customer Stories — Develop materials that help Sales explain the platform, answer customer questions, and demonstrate value. Interview customers and turn their experiences into case studies and testimonials.
Brand Voice & Consistency — Maintain a recognizable voice across external product content, including website copy, blogs, emails, social content, and webinar materials.
Content Performance & Discovery — Use audience feedback and performance data to improve content. Apply SEO practices and an understanding of how content is discovered through AI-powered search.
Thought Leadership — Work with internal experts to develop useful perspectives on retail operations, payments, and the challenges facing cannabis businesses.
What Success Looks Like Initially
Within your first three months, you’ll be expected to:
Understand the product well enough to create accurate content with limited support from internal experts.
Visit five customer implementations to learn how retailers use Sweed.
Create two pieces of product-focused content.
By six months, you’ll be expected to:
Produce at least five content pieces per month.
Have an approved content and blog strategy to guide ongoing execution.
What Professional Skills Are Important for Us?
Software Marketing Experience — Experience in product marketing or content marketing for software products. B2B SaaS experience is valuable, and we’re also open to strong B2C software backgrounds.
Technical Understanding — The ability to learn a complex platform, ask thoughtful questions, and explain how it works without losing accuracy.
Excellent Writing & Editing — Strong English writing skills and experience creating content for US audiences across formats such as blogs, website copy, emails, and product announcements.
Creative Judgment — A track record of making technical topics interesting through strong angles, distinctive messaging, and content that earns attention.
Content Strategy — The ability to decide what to create, for whom, and why—and then carry the work through to publication.
Cannabis Retail Familiarity — Familiarity with dispensaries and the cannabis retail environment, with an interest in understanding retail operations and payments. Professional cannabis industry experience is a strong advantage.
Search & Content Discovery — Working knowledge of SEO and exposure to generative engine optimization and AI-powered search.
We care more about the quality of your work and your ability to operate independently than a fixed number of years of experience.
What Else Matters?
Ownership — You can turn a conversation or product briefing into a finished piece and follow through on your commitments.
Curiosity & Accuracy — You investigate unfamiliar topics, verify claims, and know when to bring in a product expert.
Collaboration — You build relationships across teams and make good use of their knowledge.
Adaptability — You adjust your writing and approach to the audience, channel, and feedback.
What We Offer
Medical, dental, vision, and additional health insurance options.
Paid parental leave.
Generous PTO and paid company-observed holidays.
A remote role based in the United States, with a preference for Central or Eastern time zone availability.
Travel concentrated in the first two months for product learning and customer implementations, with limited travel expected afterward.
Ownership of product content and brand voice, with a team open to new ideas and creative approaches.
Hiring Process
Please submit at least three writing samples with your application, ideally across different formats such as website copy, a blog post, and an email. A formal portfolio is welcome but not required. We’ll review your samples before moving to interviews.
The process will include conversations with our recruiting and marketing teams and a writing exercise. We’ll provide product source material and ask you to turn it into a blog post, with a two-day submission window. Our marketing lead and CEO will review the assignment.
